Design Your Own Lanyard to Enhance Photo ID Cards

Inexpensive, custom designed lanyards allow business and government agencies to add personalization and creativity to photo ID card distribution. Lanyards, imprinted with a company name or slogan, enhance the visibility of identification cards, while minimizing distraction for wearers.

Jay Rosovsky, president of RealStar Solutions, explains that for many of his company’s customers, the lanyard design is just as important as the card design. "When we help our customers design photo ID cards, we focus on both the functionality of the card as well as its appearance," notes Rosovsky. In some applications, however, we have functionality requirements that may take away from the photo ID card’s aesthetics. For example, we have limited design flexibility in a card that must include a picture, an employee number and must be visible from 20 feet away."

Enter the lanyard. Not constrained by security or ID functionality, lanyards can allow businesses and government agencies the freedom to distribute distinctive and attractive identification card holders to employees, customers or guests.

Rosovsky got the idea for adding a "do it yourself" lanyard service when he noticed that lanyards were a regular accessory to many of the ID cards and photo ID card systems his company sells. "Lanyards are a very inexpensive way to dress up a photo ID card," notes Rosovsky. "We find that most lanyard purchasers have a fairly good idea about what they are looking for, so we make it easy for them to create their own design right on the spot."
